Uttar Pradesh, one of India’s largest and most agriculturally significant states, has long been a leader in food grain production. Agriculture remains a critical sector for the state, employing around 68 percent of its population. However, despite its historical dominance, years of neglect hindered the sector’s growth. Now, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is focusing on revitalizing its agricultural landscape by adopting innovative technologies. The state’s Green Plan aims to harness the power of technology to boost productivity and sustainability, ensuring long-term growth.
1]Key Achievements and Initiatives:-
Impressive Growth in Agricultural Production:
Between 2012-13 and 2018-19, Uttar Pradesh saw notable progress in its agricultural output. Wheat production increased from 31.5 million tonnes to 38.1 million tonnes, and food grain production grew by 5.23%. Pulses production surged by 9.09%, while oilseeds jumped by 14.71%. These figures demonstrate the state’s potential for further growth with the right technological interventions.
2] Bundelkhand Package for Agriculture:
A special package aimed at boosting agricultural practices in Bundelkhand includes several key initiatives:
a}80% Subsidy on Certified Seeds: To improve seed quality, the government provides an 80% subsidy on certified seeds, promoting better yields.
b}Free Mini-Kits: Select millets and cotton are provided with free mini-kits to encourage farmers to diversify crops.
c}50% Subsidy on Farm Ponds: The government offers subsidies on farm ponds for rainwater conservation, ensuring sustainable irrigation practices in water-scarce regions.
3]Adoption of New Technologies: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has consistently emphasized the importance of adopting newer technologies to enhance agricultural productivity. He encourages farmers to learn from other states with similar agro-climatic conditions to adopt practices that could yield better results. The state government is investing in digital platforms, smart irrigation systems, and precision farming technologies to streamline farming practices.
4]Technological Focus for Sustainable Growth: The Green Plan aims to integrate advanced technologies like satellite monitoring, drones, and sensors to support precision agriculture. These technologies enable farmers to monitor soil conditions, optimize water usage, and apply fertilizers and pesticides more efficiently, reducing costs and minimizing environmental impact.
Key Areas for Technological Integration
1]Digital Platforms for Farmer Empowerment: Digital tools can connect farmers to real-time information such as weather forecasts, market prices, and expert advice, helping them make more informed decisions.
2]Smart Irrigation and Water Management: Uttar Pradesh is focusing on efficient water usage through IoT-enabled irrigation systems, reducing waste and ensuring crops receive optimal moisture.
3]Drone Technology and Satellite Imaging: Drones and satellite images are used for crop monitoring, pest control, and precision application of agricultural inputs, ensuring better yield and resource management.
